Christian Dior Fall 2014

The ceilings plastered in LED lighting. Vibrant hues, such as: Daffodil, Fuschia, Emerald, Fire Engine Red, Royal Blue, and a Pastel Pink; rule the runway. Pure tailoring remains key. While a trench coat or a cashmere sweater gives the whole look a winter-ready polish. On a Friday February afternoon, in Paris, Raf Simons presents a stunningly urban inspired Fall collection, for famous Parisan House: Christian Dior.

Chanel Spring 2014 Haute Couture: An Elegant Future

Set with a Super modern reflective set, in the Grand Palais in Paris; this morning Karl Lagerfeld yes yet to surprise us of all things dynamic coming our way this Haute Couture season. Candy coated and bedazzled sneakers finish off every look. While even matching knee and elbow pads, and even a fellow bum bag as a companion, anyone? Oui, Oui!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To me, the collection felt very fresh and futuristic, similar to how I felt about yesterday’s Christian Dior and Giambattista Valli collections, but what really stuck with me from Chanel’s collection was how futuristic and Sporty the collection might have gotten, the collection always seemed to have that Elegant and Class that kept the House going back in Coco’s day. Something that I truly enjoy, as I have a very Classic, Preppy, Elegant, and Chic style.
The dresses at the beginning of the collection made me think of Candy coated Easter eggs, while the white shifts made me think Coco Chanel. Then the jewel and feather encrusted gowns towards the end made me think of a Classic Flapper. In the end, Cara Delevingne comes out as the bride, with Lagerfeld’s godson, Hudson, carrying that Gorgeous chiffon train. Leading to a finale, of a Chanel Girl ready to face the bright future up ahead of her.

Couture Gets Cutouts at Christian Dior

As cutouts have been dominating the Spring runways at shows like: Cushnie et Ochs, Versace, Anthony Vaccarello, and Gucci; Christian Dior Creative Director, Raf Simons, decides to take the staple to his most recent Haute Couture collection, the Futuristic Way. Simons gives a Classic daytime ensemble, that I’d picture myself wearing on a Summer day for a lunch time gathering or tea or to Church, Chic and modern ruffles and circular cutouts. Along with a white floor length evening gown, draped in identical circular cutouts. Besides cutouts as key in the collection, Simons seems to incorporate another important element, which seems to go well with cutouts: structure. Strapless sheer gowns get a pointed texture. A basic, Ladylike Little Navy Dress gets circular cutouts, and then placed with jewels as embellishments, giving the collection this such fun and Chic character. And as solid hues and different textures may seem to be key, Simons incorporates a floral printed trench and scarf, here and there, for that extra dosage of floral print.
Now texture and structure may seem new to most during the Haute Couture season. Raf Simons most definately keeps us all lusting over our heels for his latest pieces. Especially since the cutouts and structure get a more Elegant and Couture like twist, similar to the contagiously obsessive JW Anderson Spring 2014 collection. This is actually not the first time that I’ve noticed Simons working his Magic with cutouts and structure; as he does so in his Pre-Fall collection released nothing but 3 days ago. Now what I think that most people want to know is what Jennifer Lawerence, muse to Simons, will be sporting at the Oscars, come February.

A Flawless Variety, Indeed!

Raf Simons definitely doesn’t take the Pre-Fall season lightly, as fabrics and styles of all kinds were mixed and matched together; creating one lavishly Chic collection. Classic silhouettes, signature to the House of Dior and much of which Simons has been using ever since he took the regins at Dior, like the elegant trench coat, full skirt, peplum suit, and the shift, now get a more modern and futuristic touch. As the trench coat gets revamped in a very textured tweed like fabric in a Ballet Pink. The full skirt gets printed in Plaid, and pairs with a top in a similar print of Plaid. The peplum suit gets two-toned. While the shift gets an Artisitic and Futuristic twist, with painted flowers and sequins. And a Classic tailored suit gets finished off with a Graphic printed robe, making me wish that I could make a splash into a pool, overlooking the ocean in Vietnam. Making Christian Dior, one of the finest Fashion Houses, ready to conquer the future!!!! For a Flawless Variety, indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!
