Balenciaga Fall 2014 – Your Simple Staples Get a Zest

Whether it’s a raincoat, trench, sweater, or a high-waisted pant. Creative Director, Alexander Wang, gives that eccentric edgy feel at his own line’s collection, back at New York Fashion Week, to the Classic, simple staples seen in every wardrobe. Kanye West makes a camo, front row, while Gisele, Caroline Trentini, and Natasha Poly make notable appearances on the runway.

A Weekend Runway Rundown, (Well Sort Of)

image image image

Designer, Peter Som, kicked off Friday, with none other than a vibrant collection of: Mixing Prints of all kinds, Elegant silhouettes, and of course feathers.

Jason Wu is most definitely a fashion genius!!!! Having designed Michelle Obama’s inaugural Ball Gown, both in 2009 and in 2013, the designer presents a collection showing none other than Rich Hues and Silhouettes for none other Pure Luxury. And who better to open than Victoria’s Secret Angel, Adriana Lima?

Yeehaw!!!!!! The Cushnie et Ochs Gal hits the countryside in the most Luxurious fashion. Or as my mom’s boyfriend would say, Texas Style!!!!!

I have always seemed to be fond of Rag & Bone’s Fall collections, and Friday’s collection was most definitely no exception. This Fall, Rag & Bone girl takes a hike in style. With her olive checkered print trench, red boots, feathered handbag, and striped blazer; she’s also just as ready to hit the streets of Manhattan.

A mix of more than a 1,000 textures of fabric, prints of many kinds being combined, and a pop of my favorite hue, (especially in honor of Valentine’s Day), Red. A flawless Helmut Lang collection is born.

Very vibrant tribal prints, plaids, and swirls dared to leave us all a lasting impression, Friday, at Suno.

Reminding me of Friday’s Helmut Lang collection, Prabal Gurung also seems to mix many different textures and prints together, seen at his show, Saturday afternoon. The only difference: Gurung incorporates tribal prints, Luxurious fabrics (thinking on the line of silk and feathers), more Dramatic and Vibrant hues, (aka some of my favorites, Navy and Tangerine), and bangled pumps, which are all that wearable on the beaches of Thailand as they would be for an evening cocktail on a Winter’s night in New York City.

Jill Stuart gives her signature feminine staples, a more Punk feel. When the Classic LBD and panty hose get bedazzled, a Furred red trench layers a sleeveless leather LBD, and a brown striped fur jacket and a Grapefruit knit sweater get edgy with baggy leather pants and wedges. Making me thank Stuart for the perfect inspiration to give my feminine wardrobe a little bit of a dramatic edge.

Fringe? Check! Feathers and Fur? Check! A Sexy bodice? Check! Knee high boots and wedges? Check! Sexy Sparkles and cutouts on Evening Gowns? Check! Rounding up for another Spectacular Herve Leger show? Of Course!!!!

Lacoste Creative Director, Felipe Oliveira Baptista, puts Preppy styles of plaid, argyle, moccasins, and Tweed to the test; mixing them with baggy silhouettes, rich and bold hues, and the signature Sporty elements of the Lacoste House.

Joseph Altuzarra has yet to discover me fantasizing about wearing pretty much every single piece from his collection. From the Equestrian Boots, to those colorblocked fur coats, the Vibrantly hued fringe cocktail dresses, to those Elegantly colorblocked trench coats; I’m left Speechless.

The most notable Project Runway alum, Christian Siriano, gives 1940s silhouettes a more modern twist; with futuristic inspired prints, rich hues, and a wonderful mix of textures.

image image image image image image image

With the mixture of colors and textures, pockets in tweed, cutouts in a Trench, and a Merry-Go-Round of Supermodels, ranging from Caroline Trentini to Karlie Kloss; Alexander Wang has left us with none other than the memo of: Fashion is Ready for the Future!!!

After big changes at Kate Spade New York, (see Style.com for the full story), comes a collection filled with Bright, fun hues of Kelly Green, Cobalt, Navy, & Red, an array of fun clutches, and some of my favorite prints of leopard, flowers, and of course: Plaid. Which if you are just as obsessed as I am with Kate Spade, the collection will last you way into those Sunny Spring days of May.

At Delpozo an array of Plaid and Pastel gowns begin to fill the runway, resulting in a finale filled with Glamorous shimmer and sheen.

Yigel Azrouël gives my Plaid, Geometrics, and an Elegant Black Evening Gown this Chic City Grunge.

Public School NYC left me pretty obsessed with their Preppy tweeds, and rich hues, giving them that perfect New York City edge, and the beanies make me think Cara Delevingne.

Victoria Beckham gives your favorite basic, neutral hues a Chic twist; in the style of a Trench, in futuristic prints, and with my favorite: ruffles.

Your Classic Work Staples Get a Modern Remake

Pleated Skirt. Trenchcoat. Tweed. The Tweed Pant. LBD. A Classic White Bazer. And even The White Blouse. When most people hear these pieces of clothing, what usually comes to mind is Classic and Conservative staples traditionally seen at an office. Nothing special. Although I do love many of these staples, without an extra pop of color or a print, the ensembles appear to be more on the boring side.

A-list fashion designer, Alexander Wang, known for his edgy and punk New York City girl designs. Has lately been incorporating staples similar to those listed up above into his collections. Explaining the white button downs paired with pleated skirts at his Spring 2014 show, and tweed suits making an appearance in his Resort 2014 collection. And this time, Wang has done the same with the staples listed above in his Pre-Fall 2014 collection. Although the collection may not exactly be appropriate for working in a cubicle, the pieces surely do give those pieces a fresh update. When fringe lines the back of an LBD, Eqesutrian boots take a v-neck plunge, your Classic Black tweed gets a nice pop of bright color, and your white blouse gets some cutouts. Now how about that as wardrobe for in the office?
